sobbing and loudly lamenting:
it was Rachel weeping for her children,
refusing to be comforted

It’s the images you can’t forget:

A child running in pain and terror, her body alight with napalm.War in Asia.

A swollen bellied toddler staring reproachfully into the camera. Famine in Africa.

A tiny boy in his father’s arms, plimsoll’d feet dangling. Washed up on a beach in the Middle East.

And Saffie, just eight years old. In Manchester, this week.
