25 May 2018: Outward bound

25 May 2018

The time is fast approaching for me to go again to Lithuania.

This time to attend the interment of my beloved husband’s ashes in the church (above) we chose together many years ago. Thanks to friends there, I have had little to do other than arrive in decent order and on both feet.

I know it will be an emotional visit, very different to the last one which was a jolly occasion despite the formality of it. This too will be formal, but with so many family members and friends attending, it can’t help but be merry too. BH would have wanted it so. Serious but not stuffy; formal but certainly not pompous.

I shall try to remind myself frequently of these sensible words of St Francis de Sales:

“Never be in a hurry:
do everything quietly and in a calm spirit.
Do not lose your inner peace
for anything whatsoever,
even if your whole world seems upset.”

— St Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
